This paper discusses the contribution of ideological sayings in the building of social values.
The aim is to discuss how oral literature through ideological sayings helps to build the
values of Zanzibarian. The basic question that guided the research and data analysis is:
"What contribution do ideological sayings shape in the Zanzibar community?" Data for this
study were collected through interviews and group discussion methods. Furthermore, the
data have been analyzed based on a theoretical framework of sociological theory. This paper
is presented using qualitative analysis. The findings reveal that ideological sayings are
important genres of oral literature that motivate and build love, responsibilities, respect,
compassion, and dignity according to the traditions and customs of the Zanzibarian.
Therefore, this paper will aim to promote values that uphold respect, solidarity, and
integrity.
