The main
argument of the article is to demonstrate that, despite literature being viewed primarily as
entertainment, it can also be viewed in the way it is constructed to deliver that entertainment. Data
were collected through the method of textual analysis by watching and analyzing the films.
Axiological theory guided the data collection and analysis. The central question that led to the
creation of this article was: what literary values can be found in selected films? Normally, critics
focus on the form and themes in literature in a way that is superficial, but they do not consider how
these elements build literary value. The intrinsic values identified include the use of figurative names,
depiction of settings, character portrayal, and narrative structure.
The pure Sharia has included what is good for the servants in this world and the hereafter.
God Almighty has prescribed for his servants what will improve all their affairs. This includes
taking care of money, and I have mentioned the texts indicating the rulings related to it. I have
devoted an independent chapter to this under the title of lost property, in which there are
rulings based on Sharia evidence.
The researcher, in order to clarify this research entitled “The lost property; its provisions and
methods of implementation, a comparative study between jurisprudence and Zanzibari
custom”, examined the concept of the lost property in language and terminology, the difference
between it and the foundling, the types of lost property, the care of Sharia regarding the lost
property, its provisions in light of Islamic Sharia, the definition of the lost property according
to the sayings of jurists, with the procedures taken towards the lost property and what is
frequently found in Zanzibari society. As for the conclusion, it contains the most important
results that the researcher reached in this study, such as: that the lost property is the money
lost by its owner, and that defining the lost property is one of the obligatory matters for whoever
finds the lost property absolutely, and that defining the lost property is limited to mentioning its type without its characteristics to facilitate reaching its owner with the possibility of
verifying the ownership of its claimant by mentioning its characteristics.
The proposals for the maintenance of funds were made in accordance with the rules and
regulations of Islamic law, and this work was completed with the grace of God almighty. The study was guided by examining the challenges
facing the national laws in governing sexual offences, and the recommended measures taken to improve the
national laws to respond the needs and demands of the community in Zanzibar in relation to sexual trials. The
study was conducted in urban west region in Zanzibar. A total of 80 respondents were sampled from 6 human
service agencies including Bububu gender desks, Madema gender desk, Zanzibar female lawyers’ association,
Tanzania media women association, department of women affairs and Mnazi Mmoja one stop center. The
target study population included female lawyers, social welfare officers, social workers and police officers.
Data was collected using questionnaire and interview methods. The study found that, the national laws
governing prosecutions of sexual offences in Zanzibar have many challenges hence resulting to the increased
behavior of sexual assault. The challenges were critically attributed to non-existence of codified SA Laws,
problems on implementation of laws, weakness of the SA related laws and continuation of SA issues despite
mounting interventions, accused with two offences but convicted with lesser punishment or one offence, and
there are no governing principles on time limit in investigating cases. Finally, the findings suggested the
codification and consolidation of SA related laws, an adoption of a single specific sexual related laws, law
reform in some provisions and fast tracking of sexual assault cases
Mohammed Nassor Omar Copyright (c) 2025 ABDULRAHMAN AL-SUMAIT University Journal (SUJ) 2025-06-22 2025-06-22 10 1 10.63104/suj.v10.i1.117 Assessing STEM Competences and Needs Alignment in Pre-service Chemistry Teachers https://journal.sumait.ac.tz/index.php/data/article/view/125
This study assessed the competence level in the STEM approach among university chemistry pre-
service teachers. It employs a mixed-methods approach, integrating both quantitative and qualitative
data collection. The questionnaire was administered to 218 pre-service teachers, a focus group
discussion was conducted with 140 pre-service teachers in a group of 10 and interviews were
conducted with 10 STEM field experts. The quantitative findings demonstrate the limited level of
competence in the STEM approach among 2018 pre-service teachers. Statistically, there is no
significant correlation between STEM competence levels and variables such as gender,
specialization, or educational level because of generally low STEM literacy among pre-service
teachers. The actual levels of STEM competencies of pre-service teachers in term of knowledge,
skills and attitude do not align with their needs and expectations. The pre-service teachers’ needs
and expectations are higher than their competencies, suggesting the importance of designing STEM
framework to enhance STEM competence and achieve the expected needs. The qualitative findings
revealed similar findings of lower level of STEM Competences in term of STEM literacy, STEM-
Pedagogical Content knowledge and STEM-Value. The study recommend designing and developing
value-Based STEM Chemistry Framework and innovation focused STEM Module to cultivate
innovation skills. The designing of STEM Professional Development Framework (STEM-PDF) is also
recommended for innovative teaching methods to cultivate STEM-PCK, for enabling pre-service
teachers to develop practical skills impacting STEM Competencies to their students.
Salim A.
